Painting Vinyl

After

Before

Choosing the best exterior paint colors in 2022 can be daunting. As a homeowner, painting your home’s exterior is a big investment. Accordingly, you want to find a timeless, but modern house color that maintains curb appeal for years to come.

The transformation on this house was astonishing! We worked closely with the clients to come up with a beautiful, modern color scheme. This house had multiple different substrates that needed special attention. The most important of these was the Vinyl Siding. Until now, there were limitations to painting vinyl. We ALWAYS check with the paint reps at Shirwin Williams to see if we need a VINYL SAFE paint formula. Using a dark color on top of a lighter color would cause the substrate to buckle, leaving you no option, but to replace the vinyl entirely.

Once we had all of the substrate specific materials purchased we were ready to start the project. Like all exterior paint projects we began with a full power wash. The vinyl and the garage doors had been painted previously so they didn't require any primer. However, the raw brick did require masonry primer(see our blog post "Painting Brick" for the full story on our brick painting process). The metal railing on the porch had also been previously painted, but had a few areas that had begun to rust. For areas with rust we clean the affected areas with a wire bristle brush and then apply a galvanizing metal primer. Once all of our prep work was completed we applied 2 coats of Shirwin Williams Emerald. We take great pride in providing an excellent customer experience and delivering an ultra durable product that will last for years to come!
